Few things stop a business faster than the message “Your ad account is restricted from advertising”. Campaigns stop, leads dry up, and the reason is often unclear. Here is why restrictions happen, how to appeal one, and how to protect your account in future.
Why Meta restricts ad accounts
- Policy violations: several rejected ads in a short time, often for words or claims that break Meta’s advertising standards.
- Payment problems: failed payments, disputed charges or a card used on many accounts.
- Suspicious activity: logins from unusual locations, a hacked profile, or sudden large changes in spend.
- Identity checks: Meta may ask an admin to verify their identity before ads can run.
- Linked assets: a restriction on a connected Page, profile or Business Manager can affect the ad account too.
How to fix a restricted Meta ad account
- Go to Account Quality in Meta Business Suite (or Business Support Home) and open the restricted asset.
- Read the reason Meta gives. It tells you whether the problem is the ad account, a Page, a person or the business.
- Fix what you can first: remove or edit rejected ads, clear any unpaid balance, and secure every admin profile with two-factor authentication.
- Click Request review and follow the steps. You may be asked for an ID or a confirmation code.
- Wait for the outcome. Reviews can take from a few hours to several days. Do not create new ad accounts to get around the restriction, as that can lead to the whole business being restricted.
If the review is rejected
- Check whether a different admin’s profile is the real cause, and remove or secure it.
- Make sure your business details, website and Page match each other.
- Contact Meta support through Business Help Center chat, if it is available for your account.
- If the restriction is permanent, you may need to build a new setup with verified admins and a clean history, following the policies carefully.
How to avoid future restrictions
- Turn on two-factor authentication for every admin.
- Verify your business in Business Manager.
- Use a dedicated payment method and keep it up to date.
- Review ad copy against my list of words to avoid in Meta ads before publishing.
- Never accept suspicious invitations. Learn how to spot fake Facebook Business invites.
- Give access through Business Manager, never by sharing passwords. Here is how to give someone access to Meta Business Manager.
